Lunch and Discussion with Deputy Dean Peter Davidson

The C. Boyden Gray Center for the Study of the Administrative State hosted a lunch discussion with Peter Davidson, Deputy Dean for Strategic Initiatives at Antonin Scalia Law School and former General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative. This discussion focused on real-world administrative law issues and how Dean Davidson has worked to resolve them throughout his varied career.

About Deputy Dean Peter Davidson

Peter B. Davidson joined the Antonin Scalia Law School as its first Deputy Dean for Strategic Initiatives in August 2019. As Deputy Dean, Davidson is responsible for promoting Scalia Law School as a leading catalyst for multidisciplinary legal and public policy analysis, providing programmatic coordination, development support, and strategic planning for the law school’s research and outreach centers. Prior to coming to the law school, Dean Davidson had served as General Counsel to the Department of Commerce since 2017. As the third most senior official at the Department, he supervised nearly 400 attorneys in thirteen bureaus. Before joining Commerce, Davidson served as Senior Vice President, Federal and International Relations, for Verizon from 2003 to 2017.

Dean Davidson has served as the General Counsel assisting the United States Trade Representative and as Vice President for Congressional Affairs at Qwest. From 1995 until 1999, he was General Counsel and Policy Director to the majority leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dick Armey.  He also served as General Counsel and Policy Director for the House Republican Conference and as Attorney-Advisor in the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel. Before that, he was Law Clerk to Judge John Porfilio on the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver, Colorado.

Dean Davidson received his BA from Carleton College and his JD from the University of Virginia.
